About Us
New Hampshire Dance Institute (NHDI) is a non-profit teaching organization. During school hours, our Teaching Artists introduce children, who may have never danced, to the joy of choreographed dance and help them discover their potential by motivating them to believe in themselves, value artistic expression, and develop a personal standard of excellence. The teaching artists are professional dancers and choreographers, who teach high energy, exciting, physically and mentally demanding classes that instill confidence, pride, and team-work.Our Mission:
We believe that through teaching exciting creative dance classes NHDI can help children discover their potential by motivating them to believe in themselves, to value artistic expression, and to develop a personal standard of excellence. Through NHDI, children learn that discipline, hard work, commitment, and concentration can lead to success.
Our History:
New Hampshire Dance Institute began its life in 1986 as NDI/NH, a satellite of the National Dance Institute, the brainchild of Jacques d’Amboise, world-renowned ballet performer and New York City Ballet principal dancer. From 1986 to 1990 Jacques d’Amboise brought dance instruction and performance to New Hampshire school children by Marlborough Principal, Sandra Whippie and Wendy Dwyer. In 1990, with Mr. d’Amboise’s support and encouragement, New Hampshire Dance Institute spread its wings and became independent of NDI. In 2007, after 21 years as Artistic Director, Wendy Dwyer passed the torch and the honor of inspiring another generation of children to Kristen Leach who is currently NHDI’s Artistic Director. NHDI is proud to collaborate with Associates of National Dance Institutes (ANDI) in teaching exchanges and to share best practices in dance education.
