Message from the Board

Dear NHDI Fan,

We are starting off our 21st year in great form. We have an exciting show based on Galileo, the Italian astronomer. Our 2006-2007 cast has been selected and the children are starting to rehearse. We have added a ninth school this year, the Fuller School in Keene.

As I was thinking about writing to you, our NHDI supporters, I ran across the report of a study by the National Endowment for the Arts which says, “People who participate in the arts are people who help make communities thrive.” This study, The Arts and Civic Engagement: Involved in Arts, Involved in Life, reveals that people who participate in the arts also engage in positive civic and individual activities -- such as volunteering, going to sporting events, and outdoor activities -- at significantly higher rates than non-arts participants.

Because of NHDI mission statement work that our board is doing, I asked my daughter Melody, an NHDI alum, to write down some words that expressed NHDI for her. 58 words and 20 minutes later her list included “amazing”, “invigorating”, ”special”, “fun”, “friends”, “spontaneous” and “family oriented”.

How fortunate we are to have an amazing, invigorating, special and fun program that also helps to build involved and positive citizens for our future.

Sincerely,

Chuck Rolph, NHDI Board President
