Three Minutes about NHDI
NHDI ...
is
an in-school dance program for young adolescents. We do not seek to
train professional dancers, but to foster a love and respect for the
arts that young people will enjoy for the rest of their lives. What our students say...
The In School Program ...
provides
a weekly NHDI dance class, taught by a professional
teacher/choreographer in participating elementary and middle
schools. These weekly classes are held throughout the year
as an integral part of the school week. The culmination of
the year's work is the annual "Event of the Year" when all of the
young dancers come together to weave their work into a series of
extraordinary performances with costumes, lights, professional
orchestra and original music.
SWAT stands for "spirited, willing, and talented"! The
select SWAT dancers are chosen each January from all of the participating
schools. The dancers rehearse rigorously every Saturday through
the winter and spring season, and represent NHDI throughout the
community as a touring group. These dedicated dancers also
have their own acts in "The Event of the Year".
Shown
here are the SWAT dancers entertaining the residents and guests
at Summerhill Assisted Living, in Peterborough. They brought a
lot of life to the party!
The
SWAT team members act as NHDI Ambassadors throughout the Monadnock
Region, performing at places like the Children and the Arts Day, in
Peterborough, The Monadnock Wellness Festival, in Peterborough, The
Pumpkin Festival in Keene, Family Day at Crotched Mountain, the Jaffrey
River Fest, and Rivermead Retirement Community, and Hancock Old Home
Days.
The Residency Program ...
brings
short-term intensive dance experiences to elementary school children
throughout New Hampshire. Residencies are designed and taught by
professional teachers/choreographers. They culminate with
performances at school assemblies or in the community that involve
participants from several grades or even entire schools. details...
The Summer Dance Institute ...
gives children an NHDI dance experience in the summer. NHDI
Directors and teachers lead a two-week summer dance intensive at
the Dublin School’s Whitney Gymnasium, and in the school’s
beautiful upper field overlooking Mt. Monadnock. The camp runs
for six hours each day and is open to children ages 8-14. No prior
dance experience is necessary. Through dance and other small arts
projects, children are able to express and celebrate their energy
and creativity through movement. On the final day of camp,
the dance students perform for family and friends.
