NHDI Summer Dance Camp

In an effort to reach more children with the
benefits of its dynamic dance programs, NHDI initiated its first
ever summer dance camp in 2002. Since then, NHDI Directors and
teachers have been leading two-week summer dance intensives at
the Dublin School’s Whitney Gymnasium.
The camp strives to nurture children’s passion for dance by introducing them to dance styles beyond the athletic and somewhat jazzy NHDI style. Past summer camps have included classes in modern, dance improvisation, hip-hop, jazz, break dancing, yoga, theater and dance history.
This year for the first time, NHDI is offering two camp sessions,
each running for six hours each day, with a maximum number of
35 campers. No prior dance experience is necessary.

Throughout the two weeks the children learn a series
of dances in preparation for a performance on the final
day of camp for family and friends. Campers also enjoy
small visual arts projects, tie-dying, and dancing outside
on the school’s beautiful upper field overlooking
Mt. Monadnock. Session Two will include an introduction
to the choreographic process, with a focus on different
dance styles, improvisation games, and improvisation
within the choreographic process.
Once again there will be several guest artists bringing
new and exciting experiences to our Summer Dance Camp
participants.
Cost for the 2008 Summer Dance Camp is $280, with a
10% tuition discount for a second or third participant
from the same family. Limited financial aid is available.
