Executive Director

New Hampshire Dance Institute (NHDI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts education outreach organization based in Keene and serving southwestern New Hampshire. Founded in 1986, the mission of NHDI is to enrich the educational, intellectual, physical, and social well-being of school children — inclusive of all abilities and backgrounds — by instilling confidence and discipline through the joy of dance and music.  Approximately 3,000 children participate in NHDI programs annually.  NHDI is an Associate of National Dance Institute in New York.

NHDI seeks an Executive Director to serve as the operational and strategic leader of the organization, implementing the mission and directing all administrative aspects of quality programming. The Executive Director provides steady leadership, supporting NHDI’s mission, vision, and core values, as well as its existence as a sustainable and fiscally stable organization.

The Executive Director should possess enthusiasm for dance, fitness, the performing arts, and the health and education of the community’s children, combined with strong and energetic communication, management, and leadership skills.

This position is a salaried part-time role and reports directly to the Board of Directors. 

The successful applicant will:

  • Manage all general programmatic administrative tasks allocated to the Administrative Assistant and other projects as assigned by the Board of Directors.

  • Manage fiscal matters, including all fundraising initiatives, for the continued maintenance of current operations and future solvency of the organization.

  • Guide the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan and support the Board of Directors by managing information and communication for distribution and for Board review. This will include, but is not limited to, written reports, public relations information, marketing materials, financial statements, and email correspondence.

  • Communicate effectively and efficiently to the 10+ part-time staff members as needed to ensure successful student experiences.

  • Work independently with flexible hours to support and facilitate objectives for all NHDI programs.


  • Minimum of two years of experience in a management role that includes staff supervision. Experience working in a nonprofit environment preferred, and experience within small, community-based nonprofit(s) a plus.

  • Experience working with young people.

  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute successful fundraising strategies, which include grant writing, special events, and/or annual giving/individual donor solicitation.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

  • Financial proficiency in reading and preparing budgets.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively.

  • Demonstrated capacity to motivate and inspire others to achieve results.

  • Functional software skills and the ability to use the internet, including experience with social media, are required.

  • A bachelor’s degree is required with master’s degree preferred.
